SeaWorld/Busch Gardens Win National Daytime Emmy Award
Los Angeles, CA (June 14, 2007)

At the 34th annual Creative Arts and Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards Shamu TV's "Saving a Species: The Great Penguin Rescue" won a National Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Children/Youth/Family Special." Hosted by Elijah Wood and featuring SeaWorld aviculturists Lauren DuBois and Alex Waier, this half-hour special documents the extraordinary story of how humans across the globe flocked to the site of a disastrous oil spill off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa to take part in the largest seabird rescue in history.

The "Saving a Species" series is produced by the SeaWorld/Busch Gardens Education Department in conjunction with Spectrum Productions. BEC staff recognized include executive producer Sheila Voss, animal ambassadors Julie Scardina and Ginny Busch and Shamu TV producers Lori Schildwachter, Danielle Magee and Christine Charlick.

On hand to help accept the award in Los Angeles were a few very proud penguins from SeaWorld San Diego.

With a broadcast premiere in 2006, the program continues to air to this day on Discovery Kids Channel, a niche outlet of Discovery Communications currently in 54 million homes.
